The record crowd stands at 986 for a derby match against Thackley in the 1940s although there was also a bumper attendance for the FA Cup fifth qualifying round game against Coalville in 2004.

The Coalville tie was the biggest football match staged in the Spen Valley in many years and although estimates suggest over 1,000 packed into Clayborn for the 0-0 draw, the official attendance was recorded as 826.

Liversedge supporters Jimmy Dean has set up a Facebook group PackOutTheClayborn enticing fans to turn up to the game against Bridlington.

Jonathan Rimmington’s men are riding high at the top of Northern Counties East League Premier Division and playing some attractive football and Mr Dean is encouraging as many supporters as possible to attend.

Dean told Yorkshire Radio: “I think a crowd of 500 would be realistic but why lets not go all out and try and break the record crowd as a one off.

“Liversedge are my local team and are doing well and the aim is to round up as many people and get them to this one off fixture.

“They are top of the table and are a pleasure to watch it is a just a shame a few more people aren’t watching them.”

Liversedge made national headlines last season when they went three and a half months without playing a home fixture due to a waterlogged pitch.

The club suffered financially but, thanks to their hard working committee, survived and have started this season in excellent form.

The Bridlington game comes in the middle of the international break and Sedge are hoping fans of local professional clubs will attend to swell the attendance.

Tuesday’s game against Barton won attracted an attendance of 88, while 158 people saw their previous home game against Worksop Town on September 17.
