Liversedge lose in FA Youth Cup thriller

Liversedge suffered an agonising 5-4 defeat to North Ferriby United in an enthralling FA Youth Cup tie on Tuesday.

The Liversedge youngsters twice took the lead in 90 minutes but Ferriby fought back on both occasions to force extra time.

Liversedge took a 10th minute lead on Humberside through Brad Petefield only for Ferriby to level after 15 minutes and then take a 2-1 lead.

Aarron Rogers pulled Liversedge level before half-time.

A period of stalemate followed in the second half but Liversedge looked to have taken a decisive step to the next round when they edged back in front courtesy of an own goal.

The visitors looked to be heading through but deep into stoppage time, Ferriby struck with a 93rd minute equaliser to take the tie into extra time.

Ferriby edged back in front with a 106th minute goal and went 5-3 ahead at the start of the second period.

Liversedge refused to give in and were rewarded with a Robert Thomas goal after 120 minutes but they were unable to find a dramatic late equaliser which would have taken the tie to penalties.

Liversedge Under-19s continued their good form in the Northern Youth Alliance last Wednesday when they earned a 4-1 win over Emley.

The game sprang into life after a goalless first half when Cody Cromack put Sedge ahead and Vaughan Redford doubled the lead a minute later.

Emley were given hope when a 70th minute penalty made it 2-1 but two Kenny Taferyi goals secured Liversedge’s win.
