Moor defeat Saints to close on play-off spot

Moor produced a convincing defensive display along with some great attacking play to record a victory which saw them leapfrog St Annes on points difference and move into the play-off places.

The return of hooker James Delaney, following stints in the professional game with Dewsbury Rams and Doncaster, gave the team a big lift with him crossing the whitewash twice in the first half.

Danny Maun and Tom Kay produced some great passes out to young winger Brad Samme, who was able to take advantage and touch down twice.

Jordan Foster, Bartley O’Brian and James Eatherly also scored with Eatherly kicking four conversions.

Moor will look to consolidate their place in the play-offs when they welcome Ryland Sharks to Heckmondwike Road on Saturday (2.30pm).

Moor also face away games at Eastmoor and Waterhead before ending the regular season at home to Crosfields.

n Dewsbury Moor Under-18s had to work hard to maintain their unbeaten run as they fought out an 18-16 victory over Cottingham Tigers in the Yorkshire Youth League Premier Division.

Moor battled to secure the crucial two points, which maintains their lead at the top of the division, with second place Skirlaugh Bulls being the only club that can snatch the title away from them.

Skirlaugh have one game in hand and also have a home game against Moor, which is almost certain to be the title deciding game for both teams.

Moor appeared in control of last Sunday’s game against Cottingham as they built up a 14-0 half-time lead.

They went on to concede 16 points to the Tigers in the second half and were left hanging on to win by just two points.

Try scorers were Elliot Sheard, Jake Bardell, Jordan McNally and John Bowness, with Brad Samme adding one conversion.
