Moor edge out Trojans in A team thriller

Moor included four 16-year-olds in their side, including Alex Hollingworth and Elliot Sheard making their open age debuts.

Thornhill started well and with Adam Hoyle and Shane Davies leading the way, they built up a 12-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes.

Moor hit back when Cameron Adleigh, John Bownass and Dominic Scanlon drove them into a good field position , which led to Jonjoe Fox sending Aiden Sheard over for a try, which Cameron Adleigh converted.

Moor’s 16-year-old half-backs Archie Brice and Brad Samme combined well to send loose forward Scott Sheard over for an unconverted try as Moor trailed 12-10 at half-time.

Thornhill struck with a converted try early in the second half to extend their lead but Danny Fisher was then sin-binned for the Trojans.

Tom Kaye, Ben Wrightson, Max Vernon and Dean Carr made testing runs before Aiden Sheard sped in at the corner for an unconverted try.

Thornhill’s Vinny Johnson and Jake Hickling worked hard but it was the Maroons who struck again to level.

Matt Hoyle was held short of the line by father Adam before the ball was moved right for Samme to cross and make it 18-18.

Tom Kaye was sent clear soon after but only for play to be pulled back for obstruction.

Hollingworth, Alex Jeffs, Joel Moorhouse and Archie Bruce made good runs and Scott Sheard stormed between the posts for a try which Bruce converted as Moor led for the first time.

Thornhill looked to respond and piled on the pressure but were denied but solid Moor defence.

The pressure eventually told as Thornhill crossed for a try to make it 24-22 but crucially the angled conversion attempt drifted narrowly wide and the Maroons hung on for victory.

Moor A have now won all four of their Entry League fixtures, while this was Thornhill’s first defeat having won their previous two matches.
