Moor suffer defeat

DEWSBURY Moor welcomed Clayton to Heckmondwike Road on the back of an opening win over King Cross Park in the Pennine League Championship Division the previous week.

Clayton had gained a fine win over New Earswick and the two sides produced another entertaining game, which wasn’t decided until the final 10 minutes.

Moor started brightly and the probing of Peter Robinson, Scott Dyson and Adie Moore led to Jack Riding crossing for a try, which Andrew Robinson converted.

Clayton immediately hit back, darting over for a try from a scrum and the goal levelled matters.

Andrew Robinson showed good pace for a forward and his bustling run left defenders beaten as he scored and added the goal.

Moor were playing some good rugby but when a pass went astray, Clayton’s left centre nipped in for a converted try and soon after another try put them ahead.

With half-time approaching, Moor hit back with a scorching try. James Eatherley was sent clear and evaded several would be tacklers before sending the supporting Peter Robinson between the posts. Andy Robinson converted to put Moor 18-16 up at half-time.

Moor started the second half well with Dyson producing some tactical kicks, while Moore and Peter Robinson created gaps for Wayne Wilson, Ben Hardacre and Phil Simpson.

Moor moved the ball left and although Bartley O’Brian had several defenders around him, he managed to slip a pass out for Terry Maun to score in the corner. The touchline conversion was just wide but Moor led 22-16.

Clayton responded with two tries and a conversion and although Dyson almost put Hardacre over for Moor, the visitors broke from their own half to score another try and goal.

Moor showed great heart and after Eatherley’s storming run, O’Brian sent Maun in for his second try. However, Moor gave away a penalty which was goaled and then a dropped pass gifted Clayton another try which sealed their win
