Moor target play-off spot after victory

Dewsbury Moor boosted their National Conference League Division Three play-off hopes with a 22-12 victory over Crosfields last Saturday.

Moor’s win saw them leapfrog the Warrington side and claim sixth place with three matches remaining.

Moor were looking for revenge after a closely fought game saw them edged out earlier in the season.

It was Crosfields who took an early lead when winger Nathan Taylor crossed for a try after 11 minutes which he converted.

This shook Moor into action and good play involving Jordan Foster, Tom Kaye and Peter Robinson sent Bartley O’Brian barging over. Jacob Flathers levelled matters with the goal.

Moor were beginning to get the upper hand and good play by Bradley Foster allowed fellow forwards Toby Richardson, James Samme and Matt Shaw to run into gaps.

The pressure resulted in O’Brian crossing for his second try after good runs from James Eatherley and George Croisdale had taken them close.

Flathers then forced his way over and added the conversion to put Moor 16-6 ahead at half-time.

Crosfields caught Moor napping at the start of the second half as John Whittaker nipped over for a try, which Taylor improved.

Crosfields piled on further pressure but Moor were solid in defence to deny the visitors further points.

Moor weathered the Crosfields onslaught before Cameron Bruce and Andrew Robinson made pressure relieving runs to take them into visitors territory.

Andrew Robinson produced another testing run before putting in a grubber kick which was not gathered and teenage full-back Cameron Adleigh pounced for the match clinching try.

Flathers converted to seal a satisfactory victory which boosts Moor’s play-off hopes.

Moor travel to Stanningley on Saturday looking to maintain their challenge against a side who are just one place above them in the Division Three table.

Moor have entered a winter side in the Pennine League and entertain Beeston Broncos in their first Division Four East match on September 26.
