KBW boxer Mohammed Subhaan returned to wining ways last Friday when he defeated Lewis Southgate from St Mary’s ABC.
Subhaan suffered defeat to Joe Tyres of Darlington in his last outing and was determined to get back to winning ways as he faced a rematch with Southgate.
The pair had met on KBW’s home show in Dewsbury and Subhaan made the long trip to Chatham in Kent for the St Mary’s ABC show.
The first fight was an evenly fought contest but Subhaan produced a dominant display in the return as he earned a unanimous points decision and claimed the fighter of the night award.
Subhaan and Southgate met in the middle of the ring exchanging blows from the start of the first round.
Southgate tried to cut of the ring and trap Subhaan but the Dewsbury man was was able to keep Southgate at bay with his jab and he was producing the more eye catching work.
Subhaan upped the tempo to dominate the second round, moving to create angles landing his shots and countering everything Southgate had to throw at him.
The third round saw Southgate attempted to force the pace but Subhaan kept his composure and stayed cool under Southgate’s relentless attack.
Subhaan picked his opponent apart at will, controlling the bout and Southgate was showing a frustrated figure in the ring at the end.
Having made a winning return in impressive style, Subhaan is back in action this Saturday when he faces close rival Callum Grice in a third meeting between the two fighters.
Subhaan has won both previous meetings and will look to complete a hat-trick of wins when he fights on Grace’s club’s home show in Bradford.
Saif Cheema — who is also based at the KBW Gym in Dewsbury — will make his professional debut at the North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax on Friday December 15 against an opponent to be named.
Cheema will fight in the super welterweight division and the show has a 10 fight card, including three debutants and is headlined by Doncaster’s unbeaten super featherweight Reece Mould, who has won all seven professional bouts, with three coming by stoppage.
