Nostalgia: Young cubs earn points for task

A group of Battyeford Cub Scouts earned points after treating the Rev John Wilkinson and his wife to a slap-up tea as part of a special challenge.

They made melon, shepherd’s pie and fresh fruit salad for the couple. But the boys also bagged points for having this picture published in the Reporter – part of their task was to have a picture printed in the local paper.

The four ‘Sixers’ featured above are Steven Halnshaw, Darren Lockwood, David Stephens, and Jeremy Wright.

The county-wide challenge was set by assistant county commissioner for Cub Scouts Marilyn Horton. Other tasks included a keeping weather log, making a drawing of the group’s headquarters and penning a written prayer on conservation. They also ran a tombola to raise money for the NSPCC.
