Batley Bulldogs 48 Widnes Vikings 16 - Craig Lingard's side produce stunning victory
BATLEY BULLDOGS produced a stunning and convincing display to secure victory against Widnes Vikings in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs trailed 16-10 at the interval but stopped the visitors adding to their tally in the second period as they scored a remarkable 38 points unanswered.
It is the second win in three league games for Craig Lingard's side, who have now only lost to promotion favourites Featherstone Rovers in their five games in all competitions this year.
Lingard will undoubtedly be pleased with his side's attacking return, with the Bulldogs posting 48 points for the second week in a row.
Widnes took an early 12-0 lead as Eriebe Doro and Kenny Baker dotted down for tries which were both converted.
The hosts responded well as Jonny Campbell raced onto a kick through from Luke Hooley on the last play before Josh Tonks stretched out to plant the ball down on the tryline.
Owen Buckley hit back for the Vikings but that would prove their last mark on the scoreboard as Batley blew their visitors away as they attacked down the Mount Pleasant slope in the second half.
Michael Ward hauled Batley level when he strode under the posts and the hosts took the lead for the first time in the contest when Ben White held off a tackler to get over the whitewash.
Tries from Dale Morton, Luke Hooley, Jodie Broughton and Dane Manning, along with a second try from Campbell, completed a fine afternoon's work for the Bulldogs.
