Head coach Craig Lingard admits it is a “massive loss” for his side who will look to hit the ground running after a year without competitive action.

Batley lost 36-16 to Featherstone Rovers last weekend in their final pre-season outing.

They face West Yorkshire rivals Halifax in the Challenge Cup in what will be their first competitive match since March 7, 2020.

“We are still going to be without James Brown, Dane Manning and Anthony Bowman at least,” confirmed Lingard.

“They are massive losses for us. They are three of our pack leaders, you can tell when they are not on the field.

“We lose a little bit of go forward and leadership when they are not there.

“You are going to have to deal with that this season, you can’t use that as an excuse.

“When key players aren’t there somebody else has got to stand up and take the lead.”
