With Batley out of the Challenge Cup, Lingard’s players will have the chance to rest up this weekend ahead of their league clash with Oldham on April 17.

Some members of the Bulldogs squad are carrying small injuries, with the time off giving them the opportunity to recover before Oldham visit Mount Pleasant.

“It will be good to allow a few people to rest up, there are some people carrying a few niggles,” said Lingard.

“It will give them a good week off to get right and put themselves back in for the Oldham game.

“We will spend two weeks focused on Oldham.

“That is a big game that we need to tick off, we will build towards that and hopefully get our first league points of the season.”

Batley have lost to promotion favourites Featherstone Rovers in consecutive weeks but Lingard has been encouraged by the displays from his players.

He added: “If somebody does drop out, we have got someone who can come in and do the job.

“That is the most pleasing aspect, the competition for places is really good.

“That makes training really good and improves how people play in games. They know if they don’t play well, then someone else is ready to come in.”
