Former Batley Bulldogs and Leeds Rhinos hooker Shaun Lunt retires

FORMER Batley Bulldogs player Shaun Lunt has confirmed his retirement.

The former England international joined the Bulldogs following the conclusion of the 2019 campaign and played six times for the club last year before the season was curtailed.

He joined Cumbrian side Barrow Raiders ahead of the 2021 season but has now opted to retire without playing a game for the club.

Lunt posted on social media: “Well rugby league it’s been emotional. Our time has came to an end unfortunately.

“I’ve been very fortunate through hard work and dedication to have a career I could’ve only of dreams of as a kid!

“Met some sensational people along way also. On to the next chapter now.”

Cumbrian-born Lunt started his career in West Yorkshire with Castleford Tigers.

The hooker was part of the Leeds Rhinos side that won the Betfred Super League in 2012 with a Grand Final victory over Warrington Wolves.

Lunt was also named in the Betfred Super League Dream Team in 2013. He left the Tigers in 2006 to join Workington Town before he earned a move to Huddersfield Giants in 2009.

He won the Grand Final with Leeds while on loan in 2012, he also joined Hull KR on loan before joining permanently in 2016. He left the club for Batley in 2019.
