Craig Lingard's side had won their previous two outings in impressive fashion, scoring 48 points in triumphs over Oldham and Widnes Vikings.

The victory over recently-promoted Newcastle was their first league win away from home this campaign and the Thunder's first defeat on home soil.

The hosts had previously come from behind to draw with Widnes on the opening weekend and had beaten Sheffield Eagles last Sunday.

Alister Leek's brace helped the Bulldogs on their way to a third win in four league games with Elliot Hall, Dale Morton and Tom Gilmore also dotting down for the Bulldogs.

Kieran Gill scored twice for the hosts while Jake Shorrocks' claimed a try of his own but the Bulldogs did enough to take their run of wins to three.

Lingard's side are on the road again this week as they take on Sheffield Eagles at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium on Friday evening.
