AN ONLINE fundraising page has been set by past rugby league players to help erect a bronze sculpture in memory of Dewsbury Rams stalwart Jack Addy.

So far, £3,735 of a £6,500 target has been raised with a sculptor already lined up to carry out the work.

Featherstone Rovers CEO, Davide Longo is one of the men spearheading the initiative as he was signed by Addy when the former Rams club president was head coach at Crown Flatt.

Addy had been suffering with dementia before his passing earlier this month but Longo hopes the sculpture will serve as a permanent reminder of the work the former head coach did at the club.

"He did four decades at Dewsbury and the reason I am behind it is because Jack was the person who signed me at Dewsbury in 1993," said Longo.

"I love that we can hopefully put something at the stadium and it reminds people of him every time they visit."

Addy played, coached and was club president at Crown Flatt and helped the Rams earn promotion during his first stint as head coach.

Longo added: "The fundraising page has only been going a few days and has nearly raised £4,000. So you can see what he meant to people."
