Power blasts ton in Sedge success

Openers Max Power and David Bolt were in superb form in a first-wicket stand of 129 before Bolt was dismissed for 84 from 69 balls, including 17 fours.

Power anchored the innings and a third-wicket stand with David Winter yielded 142 runs in 21 overs before Winter, who hit 13 fours was out for 79.

Power though stood firm and reached his century before Liversedge closed on a superb 312-4. Power was 117 not out from 140 balls with 13 fours and a six.

In reply East Leeds never recovered from being reduced to 22-3 and the stumbled to 112 all out in 25 overs.

Simon Kay struck twice early before ending with 5-39 from 12.1 overs while Stephen Lane took took 3-28. Lane and Kevin Wilbraham also claimed run outs to cap a terrific Liversedge display.

Moorlands stand in third place, four points behind Liversedge, after a tie at hosts Buttershaw St Pauls.

Moorlands were indebted to Alan Sumner (48) and Chris Scott who top scored on 55 as they reached 195 all out in 49 overs. Opener Michael Rounding added a crucial 21 while Moorlands were aided by 32 extras. Brad Greenwood took 3-43 and Chris Kellett 3-36.

The hosts’ reply was rocked by three wickets from Christopher Lloyd (4-44) before Naveed Bhatti (40) got them back on track. Opener James Robson made 26 while Gavin Walker was 37 not out as Buttershaw struggled.

Pritesh Mistry made a late 14 before he was bowled by Andrew Walker (3-49) who earned a tie bowling last-man Paul Robinson to see the home side 195 all out in 45 overs. Oliver Rounding (2-43) and Muhammed Hafeez (1-27) also claimed wickets.

Batley are fifth in the table, 11 points adrift of second-placed Liversedge after a four-wicket defeat at Oulton.

After electing to bat, Batley lost three early wickets before Ayaz Seedat rescued their innings. Bilal Abbas (17), Arman Hussain (21) and Lukman Shaikh (25) supported while Seedat hit an excellent 109 as Batley reached 224 all out in 48 overs.

Steady scoring in Oulton’s reply meant they were always in the hunt and led by Hayden Preshaw (39), Paul Brown (34no) and Calvin McFarlane (31) they reached 225-6 in 49.3 overs.

Hussain took 3-36, Huzaifah Patel 2-77 and Mohammed Tahir 1-28.

Birstall slipped to third-bottom in the Premier Division after losing by 138 runs at Wrenthorpe.

Oliver Whittaker fired 105 for the hosts, supported by David Paynter (35) and Bradley Parker (32) as they reached 254 all out with nine balls remaining.

Craig Wood’s 14 overs saw him take 4-84, Saif Rehman claimed 4-65 in 15 overs while Michael Kaye took 2-38.

Connor Williams (30) and Rob Peregrine (11) added 41 for the second wicket in reply but Birstall fell from 53-1 to 116 all out in 29 overs despite a stubborn 20 from James Keen who was the ninth man out. Wrenthorpe cruised home led by Paynter (4-18), Neil Gill (2-14) and Joe Ellis (2-32).

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers continued their excellent start by climbing to fourth place with an impressive 48-run victory at home to Townville.

A terrific 83 from 91 balls by Milan Gunarathne, including eight fours and five sixes, saw Parish fight back from 46-4 to end 209 all out in 47.3 overs.

Jonathan Boynton added 27 at the start while Gunarathne received good support from the lower order, including Graeme Winn (27) and Daniel Hope (17).

Hope (3-31) then made early in-roads as Townville’s reply stuttered to 31-3. The home side kept up the pressure and despite 27 from Thomas Hudson and James Glynn’s 21, Townville were dismissed for 161 in 42 overs.

Graeme Winn led the way with impressive figures of 4-36 while Reece Drake (1-27) and Michael Padgett (1-54) also struck.

In Division Two, Batley A slipped to second-bottom as they lost by 10 wickets at home to Wrenthorpe A.

Saqib Talib made 33, Sadik Karolia 40 and Imran Mayat 20 as Batley A were 161 all out with Oliver Newton taking 5-48. Wrenthorpe A reached 162-0 in 31 over as Eric Austin made 87 not out and James Deverell 59 not out.

Hopton Mills rose to second place in Division Two after a sparkling 192-run victory at home to Buttershaw St Pauls A.

Mills are now two points behind leaders Caribbean who powered to seven-wicket triumph at Birstall A.

Sean Twohig made a fine 111 as Birstall A posted a solid 260-8.

Matthew Dyson (22), Malcolm Ellis (44) and 43 extras helped boost the total as Khuram Ejaz took 5-64.

Richard Sidle (2-56) then reduced the visitors to 37-2 before Hamid Bashir (79no) and Terence James added 212 runs for the third wicket in 29 overs.

James hit 120 from 95 balls, with 15 fours and seven sixes, as Caribbean eased to 263-3 in 37 overs.
