Carlton were reduced to 86-5 from 24 overs of their replay before play was halted.

Muhammad Shah Nawaz had led the Batley bowling attack with 3-30.

Just three balls were possible at Birstall, where Buttershaw St Paul’s hit two boundaries and finished 8-0 when the rain came.

Wrenthorpe were 4-0 from one over against Hunslet Nelson when play was abandoned, while no play was possible in the match between Mirfield Parish Cavaliers and Ossett.

Townville closed the gap on Premier Division leaders Methley to four points following a thrilling victory.

Methley posted 181-8 from their 50 overs with Marcus Walmsley leading the way with 52, including five fours and two sixes.

Richard Foster (25) and Daniel Broadbent (23) supported but Methley were pegged back by Jack Hughes, who claimed 3-22, with Peter Hepworth (3-72) supporting.

Despite several rain breaks, Townville set about chasing down the total, which they reached in 24.5 overs.

Hughes continued his impressive form by making 56 not out, including five fours and three sixes, and he shared an unbroken fourth wicket stand with Conor Harvey, who hit three fours and four sixes, a couple of which cleared neighbouring houses on his way to 42 not out.

Wakefield Thornes are just a point further behind and travel to Townville this weekend.

Thornes dismissed Altofts for 164 as Matthew Varley (4-41) and Mahmood Rasool (3-31) impressed.

Youngster Simon Storr (65) and Joseph Cook (51) steered Thornes to a five-wicket win at the start of the 42nd over and they remain very much in the title hunt.
