Batleys Dave Scott could be in line to win his 13th cap for Scotland if he features against Ireland this weekend.

The trio were hoping to make the final cut for selection with Ireland, Scotland and France having initially been included in the train-on squads.

It could mean Bulldogs teammates Ward and Scott facing each other as Ireland meet Scotland in Santry on Saturday.

Ward, who featured 27 times in his debut season for the Bulldogs after joining from Oldham, has been selected in Ireland’s 35-man train-on squad for the European Championships, which double up as qualifiers for the 2021 World Cup in England.

Ireland will follow up their opening game against Scotland by meeting France (November 3) in Santry before an away game against Wales (November 11) in Wrexham.

The top two nations will be granted automatic passage to the next World Cup, with the bottom two playing in a further qualification group in 2019 .

Stirling-born Scott will earn his 13th Scotland cap if he features against Ireland on Saturday and the full-back is also aiming to reach a third World Cup.

Scott said: “I’m looking forward to the upcoming European Championships. It is always an honour to represent Scotland.”

Following their round one trip to Ireland, Scotland host Wales in Galashiels (November 2) before a trip to Carcassone to face France, who include Batley half-back Jouffret in their train-on squad.
