Bulldogs and Rams are handed home ties

Batley Bulldogs and Dewsbury Rams were both paired at home in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fifth round draw, which was made on Tuesday, with ties to be played over the weekend of April 16 and 17.

Last season’s bottom four sides from Super League have joined the 12 fourth round winners from last week.

Both the Bulldogs and Rams avoided drawing a top flight outfit, which included early Super League leaders Widnes Vikings.

Batley were drawn at home to Featherstone Rovers, who are the only side to have beaten them this season, while Glenn Morrison’s Rams are rewarded for a thrilling 31-30 victory over Bradford Bulls last Friday with a home tie against League One outfit York City Knights.

Featherstone earned an impressive 46-28 victory away to London Broncos in last Saturday’s fourth round tie and they edged out Batley 14-12 when the sides met in the Kingstone Press Championship last month.

Batley have since gone on to win four of their last five outings in league and cup, with the other game being a thrilling 24-24 draw against Bradford Bulls.

York defeated fellow League One side Keighley Cougars 28-12 last weekend and will meet Dewsbury for the first time since 2013, when the Rams ran out 20-16 winners.
