Davey picked up a hamstring injury as Batley produced a stunning opening day victory over Leigh Centurions and has missed the last three Kingstone Press Championship matches.

Joe Chandler will undergo a head test but has shown no ill affects having received a knock in last week’s impressive 17-12 victory at Halifax but in-form centre Chris Ulugia is a doubt with an ankle injury.

Bulldogs coach John Kear knows his side face a different challenge as they start favourites against a Workington side who have yet to win.

Kear said: “I have watched three of Workington’s four games and against London Broncos they showed improvement and were unlucky not to come away with something.

“It is no coincidence that they had Jarrod Sammut and Jarrad Stack back, with two of their big names returning.

“We face a different form of pressure this week as we start favourites, so let’s see if we can show the same hunger and desire we have in our first four matches.

“I have been pleased with the preparation the players have put in and that has reflected the level of performances we have produced.

“We have rightfully earned three wins from our first four games as we have played well in those games.

“We have tried to be low key in our first four games and we will try and be low key after and keep our heads down.”

Sean Hesketh has recovered from injury and looks set to play for Batley’s dual registration club, Oxford, against Newcastle Thunder on Sunday, while centre Zack McComb has been playing with the Leeds University side.
