Dewsbury Moor triumph to end East Leeds' unbeaten start

Easy Road is never a comfortable place to go but Moor helped silence the noisy home crowd.

Moor made the perfect start as Luke Adamson’s swirling kick off was mis-judged by East Leeds and the bouncing ball fell kindly to Tom Harrington, who was tackled 20 metres out.

James Samme was held up short but from the third play of the game his front row partner Cammy Bruce scored and Aiden Ineson converted.

Moor made an error of their own from the resulting kick off and East Leeds kicked through on the last tackle, forcing a repeat set, from which they scored to level after five minutes.

The remainder of the half belonged to Moor, who produced their best rugby of the season to blow the home side away.

Tom Kaye found space 20 metres out and fed Harrington, who burst through to score.

George Croisdale broke from the kick off and raced 50 metres before earning a penalty.

Kaye produced a neat pass to Dom Horn, who met the ball on an angled run and went clean through to score their third try.

Sam Thornton earned the Maroons another penalty and from the resulting play Ineson fed Toby Richardson and he carried two defenders over the line, although another missed goal left Moor just 18-6 ahead.

Centre Croisdale broke and passed to wingman Thornton, who was hit by a head high tackle and the Maroons kicked the resulting penalty.

East Leeds kicked out on the full and from the tap re-start a smart move by hooker Archie Bruce and Ineson saw Moor march down field.

Ineson produced a neat reverse chip and Croisdale won the race to the ball to score with Ineson converting for a 26-6 interval lead, although it didn’t quite reflect Moor’s dominance, with missed conversions keeping East Leeds in the game.

East Leeds were not happy with the referee’s performance and during the break dissent saw two players sin-binned.

Against 11 men, Moor made easy strides into the opposition half and a smart ball by Ashley Boddy created space for Croisdale to find a gap and dive over.

Flathers took the kick-off and put Moor back on attack. Pete Robinson fed Horn on a 40 metre run before he sent Flathers racing between the posts, with Ineson converting.

East Leeds were restored to 13 men and Moor’s Toby Richardson was then sin-binned after 55 minutes and the home side pulled a converted try back.

A mixture of complacency from Moor and renewed vigour from East Leeds saw the home side have their best spell.

East Leeds barged over for a converted try and piled on sustained pressure, forcing five repeat sets of tackles and they pulled two more tries back but Moor held on to claim two fantastic away points and give East Leeds their first loss.

Man-of-the-match Cameron Bruce led from the front, closely followed by Brad Foster, who was solid at loose forward and led the tackle count.
