Diskin delighted to earn derby win while Kelly left frustrated by Rams display

Diskin praised both sides for producing an entertaining game, with Batley earning thebragging rights thanks to an 18-10 win.

Diskin said: ““I thought it was a really good game of rugby. I thought both teams defended exceptionally well and made it hard for each other.

“We were a little bit off with the ball in hand and in the sense of being clinical it didn’t really work for us but I thought it was a really good game.

“This slope is irrelevant for us. It may be for some teams but not for us. We should have capitalised more on some of the field positions we had in the first half but coming up the slope isn’t an issue for us, we train on it and play on it and it is normal for us and coming up hill or down hill doesn’t matter to us.

“We controlled the field position (in the second half) and the only time Dewsbury got out was through a little bit of ill discipline and penalties but other than that I thought we were pretty ruthless in controlling field position.

“These games are always a little bit different because its a derby and there a nerves and players on both sides want to get one over the other.

“Two points against your local team is the main bit and we have done that which is a right step forward.”

A frustrated Kelly said: “When you have got a completion rate of 48 per cent, you are never going to win a game.

“We have worked really hard, especially on defence, where I thought we were superb most of the time, but we failed in the second half to apply any pressure on the Batley line and I feel we have let Batley off the hook.

“Fair do’s to Batley, they have won the game, but I don’t think the referee has helped us.

“We went through a period in the second half where they had four, possibly five sets of six because of penalties and knock ons.”
