The win saw Celtic move up to fifth place in the early season standings, a point behind Eastmoor Dragons in a section which sees Clock Face Miners and league newcomers Beverley boasting 100 per cent records.

Celtic raced into a 20-0 half-time lead and added a further 28 unanswered points after the break as they inflicted a third defeat in four games on Waterhead. Paul Foulstone totalled 24 points, with three tries and six goals.

Jamie Mayall toiled manfully for the Oldham side but they had little answer to Celtic’s impressive display as Liam Walmsley bagged a brace of tries, while Anthony Dunford, George Senior, Danny Lee and Danny Thomas also crossed for Brendan Sheridan’s men.

Celtic are not scheduled to have a league game this Saturday and return to action on April 21 when they host Oldham St Annes.

St Annes suffered a narrow 32-28 defeat to Clock Face last week, with the St Helens side racking up a fourth straight win to maintain their lead at the top.

It is one of four consecutive home games for Celtic as they face Millom on April 28 and Beverley on May 5.

Beverley eased to a 64-8 victory over Salford City Roosters and have won their opening three games since joining the Conference.
