Six Bulldogs players hope to figure in World Cup qualifiers
Batley Bulldogs teammates Michael Ward and Dave Scott could be set to face each other in a mouthwatering European Championships opener on October 27.
Ward, who featured 27 times in his debut season for the Bulldogs after joining from Oldham, has been selected in Ireland’s 35-man train-on squad for the European Championships, which double up as qualifiers for the 2021 World Cup in England.
Ireland kick off their European Championship campaign at home to Scotland in Santry and follow up with games against France and away to Wales with the top two from the group earning automatic qualification for the next World Cup.
Stirling-born Scott will earn his 13th Scotland cap if he features against Ireland and the full-back is also aiming to reach a third World Cup.
Scott said: “I’m looking forward to the upcoming European Championships. It is always an honour to represent Scotland and I can’t wait to join up with the lads next week.”
Following their round one trip to Ireland, Scotland host Wales in Galashiels before a trip to Carcassone to face France, who include Batley half-back Louis Jouffret in their train-on squad.
Bulldogs trio Joel Farrell, Wayne Reittie and Keenen Tomlinson have been selected in Jamaica’s 29-man train on squad for the Americas Championship to be played in Jacksonville, USA, on November 13 and 17.
