Thornhill Trojans junior sides in action

Thornhill Trojans’ junior sides all put in impressive performances last weekend as they took part in four tough matches.

The four teams, aged between under seven and under 10, all looked strong as they recorded a win, two defeats and a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Trojans under 10s were unfortunate to be on the losing side in a narrow 26-28 defeat to Keighley Albion.

Having responded to early set-backs with an excellent team performance, a last-gasp try and conversion from Albion snatched what would have been an impressive win away from Thornhill.

Asim Collomosse and Zak Harrod both bagged two tries for the Trojans, who recovered from a half-time deficit to lead with minutes of the game remaining.

But four try’s from Albion’s Kyle Welsh and an ice-cool conversion from Liam Evans right at the death sealed the win for Keighley in a topsy-turvy match.

Thornhill under nines were involved in a thrilling draw with Keighley Albion, as they put in a top display of defensive strength.

Kieran Duxbury crossed the line twice for Thornhill, with Shea Midwood also on the scoresheet, but most impressive was Thornhill’s determination at the back.

The majority of the Trojans team made more than 20 tackles each over the course of match to reduce Keighley to just four points, Jordan Hargreaves in particular impressing as he finished with 28 tackles.

Thornhill under eights continued their good form with a solid display against King Cross Park.

Finlay Ratcliffe opened his Trojans account with a fine try and Bailey Lee bagged a brace, while there were also tries for Josh Barclay, Brandon Samuel and Scott Walker.

King Cross battled throughout and were denied a great try by Kyle Lister’s last ditch tackle.

However, they proved no match for a solid Thornhill side brimming with confidence, who handled the ball well to see out the win.

Thornhill under sevens had a hard challenge on their hands as they travelled to a classy Townville outfit.

Thornhill faced an uphill task throughout, but put in an excellent performance to compete with Townville.

The Trojans produced an excellent second half display with tries from Tyler Jowett (two) and Toby Lumb, while Dylan Stanley was a constant menace.

Thornhill defended well, with strong tackling from Blake Clegg in particular, as the whole team put in 100% effort throughout.
