Batley Bulldogs coach John Kear believes new signings the club have in the pipeline will excite supporters for the 2016 season.
Batley finished the current campaign in fifth place of the Kingstone Press Championship Shield and Kear admits there are plenty of positives for the club to build on.
Speaking after last Sunday’s 60-12 thrashing of relegated Hunslet Hawks, Kear said: “The way we have finished the season shows there is potential in this group of players for next year with the additions we are going to make.
“I think the fans will be very pleased with the players we are bringing in next year to supplement what I think is already a decent squad.”
It was confirmed on Monday that scrum-half Scott Leatherbarrow will leave Batley to join London Broncos on a two-year deal but it is understood the Bulldogs have a replacement already lined up.
Leatherbarrow scored points in his 21st consecutive match for Batley last week and ended with a try and seven goals , while setting up numerous other scores.
Winger Alex Brown joined Batley on loan from Halifax midway through the season and proved a revelation, scoring 14 tries in 13 starts for the club.
Kear paid tribute to the flying winger, saying: “We would love to keep Alex Brown but he is contracted at Halifax for another year
“If he was out of contract, we’d obviously make a play for him but he isn’t after signing a two year deal.
“He ended up on loan here but you never know for next year but that will be between Halifax and our club.
“Alex plays his best rugby here and he’s scoring a try a game since he has come back and when a wing man is scoring a try a game, it makes a hell of a difference.”
