A group of die hard Batley Bulldogs supporters have set off on a four-day 105-mile walk to Barrow ahead of Sunday’s Championship clash.
The group, who are members of Batley Bulldogs Independent Away Travel, left Batley yesterday and will walk via Skipton, Ingleton and Ulverston before reaching Barrow in time for Sunday’s game.
Nick Sowerby, Mick Binks, Mick Gothard, Steve Curnin, Hanif Akudia and Ben Thirkill, are raising money for Breast Cancer Care in alignment with the Bulldogs’ Pink Weekend charity event, which the club now runs on an annual basis.
The group of walkers have been liaising with Batley chairman Kevin Nicholas and director John Miller in the build up to their terrific effort.
The group will hope for good weather over the coming days as they are out each night and cooking their own food as part of a survival style experience.
The Bulldogs are giving supporters in Batley regular updates of how the walkers are progressing via the club’s official Twitter @BatleyRLFC and by early afternoon yesterday the group had covered 15 miles with a mere 90 to go.
The group have set up a Just Giving page for anyone who wants to donate to their fundraiser, which can be visited at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/batleyindependentawaytravel.
n The Bulldogs Supporters Club coach to Barrow on Sunday leaves the club at 10am, Branch Road, Batley at 10.10am and Birstall Library at 10.20am. The fare is £15 adults, £10 juniors.
