Batley Bulldogs star Alex Bretherton has agreed a new deal which will keep him at Mount Pleasant for a ninth successive season.
Bretherton joined Batley from neighbours Dewsbury Rams in 2011 and has racked up 196 appearances for the Bulldogs, during which time he scored 47 tries and landed one goal.
His versatility of being able to play in a number of positions has made Bretherton hugely popular with Batley fans and coach Matt Diskin is delighted to have him on board in 2019.
Diskin said: “Breth brings a massive presence in the squad. His attitude is first class and his experience and flexibility are invaluable to us. We’re thrilled to have him with us again in the coming season.”
The majority of the Batley squad reported back for pre-season training on Monday, with the exception of those still on international duty. The players being put through their paces include a host of new signings, the latest of which is highly rated young forward Tyler Dickinson, who completed his move from Huddersfield late last week.
Dickinson is a 22-year-old prop, who has made a number of Super League appearances for the Giants, and has had spells on loan with Oldham and Halifax in the Championship.
Batley beat off competition from several other clubs to sign Dickinson.
