Sidecar pair gear up for TT success
DEWSBURY sidecar racer David Hirst is gearing up for TT glory at the third time of asking.
With passenger, Luke Beckworth of Seacroft beside him, the 43 year old logistics manager is aiming to improve upon his best lap time of just short of 105mph in the world famous event.
Hirst last competed at the TT Festival, held on the Isle of Man, in 2008, although machinery problems meant he and passenger Paul Lowther endured a largely disappointing fortnight.
Over the last three years, though, Hirst has tasted glory on the Isle of Man, at the International Southern 100 Races, the highlight being a fine third place in the 2009 event.
Hirst is a former runner-up in the FSRA British Formula Two Sidecar Cup event and will be campaigning his 600 Shelbourne Honda outfit in both of the Sidecar Races at the TT in June, along with at the Southern 100 Races in July.
He will also be in action at all of the races at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough this seasonand at selected British Championship meetings across the country.
Hirst and Beckworth, 28, have already had a number of warm-up events this season, qualifying and finishing in the top three at Cadwell Park and Croft alongside some stiff competition.
Racing under the banner of Team BHR (Brian Hirst Racing), and thanks to the backing of sponsors; Leeds Parcel Company, Dewsbury BHP Centre and Nige Lumb Flooring; David and Luke are looking forward to achieving their ambitions on circuit this year.
They are also hoping to build on this in 2013 with the possibility of a full British Championship campaign, as well as the Manx-based events.
