Spenborough athlete Walsh selected for World Junior Championships

SPENBOROUGH Athletics Club starlet Jenny Walsh has been selected for the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team that will compete in the IAAF World Junior Athletics Championship next month.

Walsh, 19, will travel to Barcelona as a member of the 43-strong British squad for the championships that run from July 10 to 15 and compete in the 1,500m.

The Durham University student featured in last weekend’s Aviva Trials in Birmingham where she qualified for the finals of the women’s 1,500m.

Walsh finished third in the second heat behind Laura Muir and Wakefield Harrier Charlene Thomas before taking seventh in Sunday’s final with a time of 4:25.43.
