Thompson treble as Rangers seal fine derby triumph

DEWSBURY Rangers moved up to fourth place in the Wakefield League Premier Division thanks to a 4-2 derby success at home to Wilton last Saturday.

Victory leaves Rangers six points behind leaders Dodworth Miners with two games in hand after Mikey Thompson bagged a hat-trick, while Tom Lund also netted in an impressive display.

Defeat leaves Wilton second-bottom, three points above Woodman having played five games more.

Thornhill bowed out of the Premier Division Cup, suffering a surprise 6-4 defeat at home to mid-table Crofton Sports.

Lee Brook bagged a brace, while Nathan Kemp and Jamie Beever were also on target but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Premier champions bowing out of the cup.

Old Bank WMC moved out of the Division Two relegation zone, on goal difference, after they gained a second win of the campaign, recording a fine 3-2 victory at Garforth Rangers.

There was also cause for celebration for Dewsbury Rangers Reserves after they picked up their first points of the campaign, at the ninth time of asking, as they defeated fellow strugglers Snydale Athletic Reserves 3-2 in Division Three.

Victory was not enough to lift Rangers off the foot of the table and they still trail Snydale by four points.

Hartshead gained a welcome point from a 2-2 draw at Horbury Town in West Yorkshire League Division One.

The point saw Hartshead move out of the bottom two up to 12th place while Horbury are sixth on goal difference behind Wyke Wanderers, whose game at Baildon Trinity Athletic was postponed.

Division Two Howden Clough also saw their League Cup tie with Premier side Otley Town called off, while in Alliance Division Two, Clough Reserves lost 2-1 at Rothwell Reserves.
