DEWSBURY Celtic prop Alex Walmsley was named as player of the year for the Co-operative Summer Conference National League in Manchester on Tuesday evening.
Walmsley has had an outstanding season with his storming all-round performances which have brought him many tries and helped create numerous others for team mates.
He has attracted the attention of a number of professional clubs but has so far preferred to stay in the amateur ranks.
Alex has played at Dewsbury Celtic since 1999, when they formed an Under-12s team, with his brother Liam.
Celtic also had former Under-18s player Dane Manning nominated for the Championship young player of the year with Batley Bulldogs.
Meanwhile eight local players have been included in the Yorkshire Under-17 squad to meet Humberside in Hull next week as part of Yorkshire’s preparations for this season’s County Championship.
They are Doug Foster, Alex Addy and Seam Walker, of Dewsbury Celtic, Brad Delaney and Bobby Canavan, from Dewsbury Moor and Will Gaunt, Tom Consterdine and Reece Parker, from Shaw Cross Sharks.
