Victoria secure a vital league win

BIRSTALL Victoria moved to within three points of Pennine League Division One leaders Westgate thanks to an impressive 30-20 victory over West Bowling A last Saturday.

The Vic led 14-10 at half-time after tries from Danny Kirk and Josh Wilson, while Mick Dyson landed two conversions and a penalty.

Victoria ran away with things in the second half as Kirk capped a man-of-the-match display with his second try, while Matty Smith and Anthony Cox also crossed.

Leon Crick was second in the MoM stakes, with Smith third in a fine all-round performance as the title race hots up. This Saturday Birstall travel to Birkenshaw, 2.30pm kick-off.

Birstall Victoria’s Under 10s were invovled in a cracking game before losing 26-24 at Wetherby.

The defence and attack from both teams was top notch.

George Daddy and Liam Brotherton ran hard for the Vic. Casey Rhodes and Reece Ashworth had top games. Charlie Blockley and Jack Waring were a real handful while Kane Ellis and Harry Thornton continued their good form. Millie Taylor had her best game of the season. Waring, Ashworth, Thornton, Blockley and Ellis scored a try and goal each.

Rhodes and Blockley shared top tackler, Ellis took the magic moment award, parents player was Millie Taylor and Waring was player of the match award.
