Wardlaw short-listed for international award

The 28-year-old former Hartshead Moor player has been named along with 12 others as the international debutant of the year.

Wardlaw has had a magnificent year having been picked for Scotland.

The Dewsbury-born bowler claimed 15 wickets from eight One Day Internationals at an average of 27.27 and a further nine wickets from four Twenty20 internationals at an average of 16.11.

His 24 international wickets since his debut in 2013, is the second-highest from any of the world’s debutant players, behind Indian Test star Mohammed Shami’s 32.

Wardlaw has capped a magnificent 12 months by helping Scotland qualify for next year’s ICC World Cup in Australia.

His performances have helped Scotland to a top-two finish in the qualifying tournament in New Zealand.

Wardlaw claimed the vital wicket of Alex Obanda as Scotland defeated Kenya by three wickets on Thursday to book their place in next year’s World Cup.

He also claimed 1-47 from seven overs in Tuesday’s game against Papua New Guinea having previously picked up 2-30 in Scotland’s 170-run win over Canada last Thursday, to book a place in the Super Six stage of the tournament.

Wardlaw will also hope to figure in the tournament final against UAE tomorrow.

Wardlaw also played a key role in helping Cleckheaton clinch a first Bradford League Division One title last summer.
