Family friendly festival is back - with a new home

Family friendly festival Underneath the Stars returns this summer with another exciting line-up of established and emerging talent.

The event is also on the move - it will stay in Cawthorne, but it moves to Cinderhill Farm from its previous home at Cannon Hall.

Organised by the family production team of Yorkshire’s Kate Rusby, the festival boasts an array of music, including folk, jazz, roots, bluegrass, fusion and Americana as well as workshops, arts, crafts and food stalls that highlight the creative talents of the Yorkshire region.

Heading this year’s line-up are Grammy Award winning songwriter and activist Steve Earle with his band The Dukes, as well as Mercury Music Prize-nominated and four-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winning singer-songwriter Kate Rusby.

Festival-goers will also be able to hear the sounds of George Hinchliffe’s Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Lau, The California Feetwarmers, Damien O’Kane and Ron Block and Midnight Skyracer.

The music isn’t the only thing on offer either: younger guests - and their parents - will be able to enjoy storytelling, immersive street theatre, circus little big top performances and workshops, dance, instrument and craft workshops, Emma’s crafty kids children’s area and Bonny Bairns activities.

There will also be lively street-arts performers, a new Makers’ Market, workshop activities, handmade crafts and vintage stalls as well as boutique street food vendors and bar areas.Best-selling author Joanne Harris, most famous for her novel Chocolat, will be presenting an audio-visual show combining original music, songs and stories with The Storytime Band.

Creative director Joe Rusby said: “We are proud to be hosting some of the best roots performers in the world and at the same time showcasing the talent and creativity within the region of Yorkshire.”

Underneath the Stars runs from July 20 to 22. Weekend tickets are £140 for an adult, £125 for concessions, £40 for seven to 17-year-olds, and free for under sevens. Day tickets start at £50 and camping is available from £15. For tickets, visit underthestarsfest.co.uk.
