Blooming good show

A blaze of summer colour will wow visitors to the Kirklees Council’s Flower, Vegetable and Handicraft Show next weekend.

This year’s show at Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, includes the Huddersfield and District Fuchsia and Geranium Society Open Show, the Yorkshire Gladiolus Society Early Show and the Huddersfield Allotments and Gardens Federation Show.

The Huddersfield Miniatures Club will also exhibit a large range of miniature houses and street scenes.

There are also open classes for vegetables, flowers, domestic (baking, preserves, beer and wine), floral art and a handicrafts section.

Kids can also get in on the act by competing in the Kirklees Got Talent, with children up to the age of 13 displaying fresh flowers in a pot, baking buns, making a vegetable creation, creating a miniature garden, exhibiting home grown vegetables or displaying a photo of local wildlife.

There will also be free craft activities for children organised by the Friends of Greenhead Park and the Huddersfield Miniatures Club. ‘Grow your own’ demonstrations, children’s play activities, a family fun fair and beer and wine tastings.

The show is on August 10 and 11, from 11am-4.30pm. Admission is 50p, under 16s free if accompanied. To exhibit, or for further information contact Kirklees Direct on 01484 414700.
