Singer-songwriter hanging up the cape

Sam Duckworth, who found fame with his Get Cape Wear Cape Fly moniker, will play the Brudenell Social Club, in Leeds, on Tuesday September 2, in his final run of UK dates.

He said: “It’s just the right time. On Boxing Day I watched the LCD Soundsystem documentary Shut Up and Play the Hits and it seemed the right way to do it – on your own terms.

“The final live shows will be very much full circle, I’m trying to wrap it up into a neat package.

“It has taken me 10 years and this is the best show I have put together, but it’s also the last one.”

And though there was a somber aspect to letting go of the past he said he looked forward to the next phase of his career, in which he will release an album under his own name later this year.

“I had a list of everything I wanted to achieve and the experience went above and beyond. I’m glad people wanted to support me and what I do.”

He said he had known since 2012 that the Get Cape era was coming to an end and that the new album he had been working on felt like it should be released as a solo record.

But he said there were five or six songs from the his previous albums that would still turn up in his sets.

“You write songs when you are young and there are some you don’t want to play anymore, but others stick with you,” he said.

“I’m just grateful. I’m sitting here looking at 10 years of happy memories. It was more than I could have expected because of the grace and good will of people.”
