Slapstick fun at Collegians’ panto

DEWSBURY Collegians promised a night of family fun with their latest pantomime, Aladdin.

And if the enthusiastic response of the opening night audience is anything to go by, they pitched their performance perfectly.

The cast’s energy and excitement soon rubbed off on the crowd, with young and old alike joining in with booing evil sorceror Abanazer (Laurie Gilbert), shouting ‘He’s behind you!’ as a fearsome yeti appeared and jumping in and out of their seats during a lively rendition of My Bonny Lies Over The Ocean.

Slapstick, word play and clever use of props brought plenty of laughs throughout the show.

Collegians’ regular Jodie Mitchell shone during musical numbers and led the cast wonderfully with a confident performance as Aladdin.

Special mention must also go to Chris Etty as Widow Twankey, whose delivery and comic timing was spot on, and the young dancers who gave polished performances throughout.

With a great selection of songs and plenty of audience involvement, this fun-filled show will delight panto fans of all ages.
