Dewsbury set to welcome its first Aldi store in town centre
and live on Freeview channel 276
It will be based within a new extension to existing units at the Rishworth Centre, close to the A638 ring road, that will replace the branch of Next that currently occupies the premises.
A report to a meeting of Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee (Jan 27) revealed that Next is due to vacate that unit.

Hide AdHowever the Local Democracy Reporting Service understands that Next will continue to operate from the Rishworth Centre site until it is served notice to vacate.
Nick Pleasant, agent for Leeds-based NewRiver Retail Portfolio No.8 Ltd, described introducing an Aldi store into Dewsbury as “retail-led regeneration”.
He added: “The existing unit will become vacant in the near future and there are no guarantees that without this planning permission a future tenant would be secured.
“In that instance there would be a loss of investment and jobs and economic growth in Dewsbury.”

Hide AdThe creation of the new store involves extending the existing Rishworth Centre, which is just outside town centre boundary of the ring road, and merging two car parks.
Committee chair Clr Steve Hall (Lab, Heckmondwike) commented: “I don’t really see any problems with this [application].
It was approved unanimously by the seven-member committee.
