Drummer shows office staff how to beat the blues: video)

To beat the January blues, all you need is the right rhythm.

That’s according to Brazilian musician Claudio Kron, who is using his Blue Monday office samba to spread some joy.

The Batley-based performer is urging offices across the district to turn everyday items such as staplers and wastepaper bins into exciting instruments.

By shaking boxes of paper clips and drumming on computer keyboards Claudio believes workers can create some toe-tapping tunes to beat Blue Monday, thought to be the most depressing day of the year, this Monday.

Claudio believes the stresses of January mean workers will be in need of some musical therapy.

He said: “It’s the cold, it’s very wet, very black and from about the third week of January people start getting credit card bills and start realising that they have given nice presents and they got a lot of socks!

“Music is one of the most powerful resources for you to use to take yourself away from reality and put you somewhere else.”

And musical workers are happy workers, according to Claudio, who has posted a YouTube video of staff at Redbrick Mill, where his office is based, joining in the fun.

“When we are happy we’re more productive and get the job done. We can work very well, having music on our side and now and again we can get our colleagues to do something musical. You don’t need to buy anything, you just use the office items to create the music.”

Claudio’s ideas for building your own office orchestra include drumming on wastepaper bins, clicking staplers, strumming the spirals on binders and notepads and adding extra rhythm with the tap-tap-tap of a computer keyboard.

So whether you already miss Christmas, have got money worries, hate the gloomy weather or just can’t wait for spring to arrive, finding your own workplace rhythm could be the answer.

Claudio said: “Someone starts a beat, somebody else plays something else and everybody will join in. Play the vibe that you get inside your heart.”
