As a meeting this week, Mayor of Mirfield Vivien Lees Hamilton said she believes a graffiti mural on the walls of the toilets would discourage further vandalism.

Coun John Nottingham (Con)said at the meeting: “I think it is a travesty that people walk into the toilets in Mirfield and see graffiti on the walls.

Coun Lees-Hamilton told him she has been in talks with community groups about the possibility of creating a “graffiti mural” in the style of the display under the railway bridge in Station Road.

She said: “While it is only an initial enquiry, I think this could be a fantastic idea for the toilets.

“If there was intentional graffiti on the walls, this could deter people from adding their own to the wall.
