Batley Community Alliance (BCA) have been in talks with councillors and Kirklees officers over the past year in a bid to start making the area more appealing to shoppers and visitors.

Those interested in participating are needed to commit on a fairly regular basis, with a suggestion being one morning per month starting on Saturday, March 28 at 9.30am.

BCA member Richard Martin, 65, of Bradford Road, said: “The council are cutting down on services and one of the things they are cutting down on is environmental people. And something needs to be done about it.

“The idea is an initial improvement campaign followed by regular maintenance to ensure that the areas do not degenerate.

“We are hoping quite a few voluntary groups will offer their services.”

Final plans should be set at the group’s next meeting on March 24 at 7.30pm in Batley Parish Church Community Room. Contact [email protected]
