Mirfield Town Council offices are on the list for asset-disposal by Kirklees Council.

A list which includes sites at High Street, Birstall; Mowatt Court, Hightown; and Low Road in Dewsbury Moor will come before Kirklees Council’s assistant directors of place and resources next week for approval for their sale.

The council calls it a sale of surplus assets, yet more controversial listings, such as the Mirfield Town Council building, are still in use.

The document, which was sent to the council officers, said: “The programme of disposal is designed to support the Five Year Strategic Investment Plan, reducing the need for borrowing and the associated revenue costs.

“This initial programme of disposals is phased over 18 to 24 months.

“A reserve price will be applied to properties prior to sale so that best consideration can be achieved.”

The properties would be sold off via auction, negotiation or asset transfer.

A decision is expected to be made on the future of the sites on Tuesday March 24.
