The modern languages department was transformed into a Swiss dining room and students feasted on the traditional melted cheese and other specialities from the region.

Other activities saw the food rooms come alive with the smells and sounds of the Mediterranean.

Students were also treated to a cooking masterclass, a Flamenco Dance workshop, a French comic play and African drumming.

Emma Hodgson, Head of Modern Foreign Languages at the school, was delighted with the event.

She said: “There was a real buzz around school.

“All students worked and played hard throughout the day, with a palpable sense of purpose, fun and enjoyment.

“It was a wonderful reminder of the value of learning outside of the classroom and away from traditional teaching methods.”
