Biketrain gets revved up

Biketrain, based at New Ing Mills in Batley, helps 16 to 19-year-olds not in employment, education or training to learn new skills, gain qualifications and develop important life skills.

The community college also secures valuable work experience for their trainees at local garages, with some going on to complete apprenticeships after impressing firms during their placement.

“We hope to move every learner on to further training or an apprenticeship,” said director and personal development tutor Louise South.

The college ensures its students are ready for the world of work and helps them to develop life skills such as money management, punctuality and communication.

Vicky Hargraves, director and motor vehicle tutor, said the company’s motto is ‘your goal is our aim’, with learners going on to work in mechanics, joinery and more.

“The skills are transferable into other industries,” she said.

“We strive to get them ready for what work is going to be like.”

Biketrain, a partner of Kirklees College, works with the Princes Trust, the Kirklees Youth Offending Team and hopes to link with Connexions and the Job Centre.
