LOW-QUALITY GOODS I-Sleep, which was prosecuted for selling unsafe sofas and mattresses last year, has now been wound up in court.

The Insolvency Service said I-Sleep, which had a shop in Dewsbury town centre, was wound up in the public interest for selling low-quality goods and failing to supply goods already paid for.

The company and four I-Sleep franchises sold beds and sofas from shops mainly around Yorkshire.

Investigators found no evidence that the companies, which used a single bank account for sales receipts, were run as separate businesses.

I-Sleep’s own records showed 870 customer complaints in just six weeks in early 2013.

They suggested “a serious disregard for customers and consumers and disreputable trading methods” across the I-Sleep franchises.

The Insolvency Service said in a statement: “Further complaints involved misrepresentation, bullying and threats towards customers, some of whom were vulnerable members of the public.”

Last July, the company was fined thousands of pounds after its mattresses and sofas were found to be unsafe.

I-Sleep, along with a number of other firms, faced magistrates after a West Yorkshire Trading Standards investigation.

Kirklees Magistrates’ Court imposed fines and costs totalling £16,890 on multiple businesses across the north of England in relation to the importation, manufacture and supply of unsafe furniture.

I-Sleep Limited and its sole director Wajid Hussain were fined £2,200 each.
