Det Insp Andy Parr said the plates were KL08 PCU originally, but had been changed by the time the car was abandoned.

“The vehicle has apparently changed its number plate on the route at least once,” he said.

“We’re looking for witness who saw a silver Honda Civic at any time after 5pm that day.”

One of the men was described as white, 35 years old and 5ft 6in. He wore a grey fleece-type jumper, black bottoms and a black hat with a peak.
