A wood burning stove which was attached to the static vehicle caused it to set alight. It happened next to Thornhill Lees Central Mosque (Darul Ilm) off Brewery Lane in Dewsbury.

The owner was using the caravan as a place to watch over the mosque’s materials while it undergoes development. He was not present and nobody was hurt.

Firemen from Dewsbury’s station used two pumps to tackle the blaze for about an hour after being called out at around 1.15pm.

Watch commander John Stone said: “We wouldn’t recommend attaching anything to a caravan at all and not to have a wood burning stove in a way that leans-to.

“Fortunately the man wasn’t in the caravan at the time.”
