Charity champs

COMMUNITY spirit is alive and well at a supermarket where staff have raised thousands for good causes.

The team at Asda in Dewsbury raised a whopping £39,287.59 last year.

And they raised the most of any UK branch for Asda’s Tickled Pink campaign.

Thanks to enthusiastic staff and generous customers, they raised £12,659.22 for the campaign’s beneficiaries Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign.

Community co-ordinator Sharon Kingswood said: “Without my colleagues and the customers, it wouldn’t have been possible.

“We did so much for Tickled Pink last year.

“We had events every month like cake stalls, barbecues and tombolas, and we had four staff members do the Three Peaks.”

And the team at the Mill Street West store are determined to top it this year.

Sharon said: “We’ve got 15 staff doing the Three Peaks and seven doing a sky dive for Tickled Pink.”

Other charities supported included Children in Need, Everyman and Tommy’s.

This year’s fundraising kicks off tomorrow, between 10am and 3pm, when there will be a tombola, barbecue and games for children in aid of the Mayor of Kirklees’s charity the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.
