Community centres win makeover cash
Councillors agreed to give PHAB North Kirklees £7,426 towards new flooring throughout its ground floor.
The committee heard the current flooring was worn throughout and unsafe for the vulnerable adults who used the facility.

Hide AdMeanwhile, Ravensthorpe Community Centre was given £42,000 towards a refurbishment expected to cost more than £150,000.
The money will help meet the cost of improving the centre’s IT and telecom infrastructure, creating a resource library for adult learners and schoolchildren, and improve security of the buildings in Garden Street.
The meeting heard the centre is used by hundreds of people and had drawn up a business plan to help with its future development.
Dewsbury West councillots Mumtaz Hussain (Lab) and Darren O’Donovan (Lab) both backed the bid.

Hide AdBut Coun Paul Kane (Lab, Dews East) said he was worried that a “very dangerous precedent” was being set.
He said: “There are lots of other community centres who are going to say we can go to the are a committee and they will pay for things we should be paying for.”
