Community school opens new extension

A new extension at Staincliffe C of E Junior School was opened by Batley and Spen MP, Jo Cox.

And school councillors, parents, and teachers all attended the official event.

Mrs Cox said: “It was a wonderful day and the children absolutely loved it.

“We had special assembly, where the children asked me about democracy and what its like to be a member of Parliament.”

The two storey extension will include two classrooms, a multi-purpose breakout room and a new staff room.

The extension will provide more learning space for the children, particularly those with special needs.

The MP said: “The school is an incredibly popular school, so the extension was needed.

“They felt that the classrooms weren’t big enough, and the school had funds saved up so they spent it on the extension.”

The new extension is part of the school’s 2015-2016 budget, as there have been plans to provide costs for maintenance, learning resources, IT resources, staff training and external professional services.

Mrs Cox said:“It is an incredible community school.”

“They have had things such as coffee mornings and other events and the parents have been so involved in many of the school’s events..

“The parents absolutely love the new extension.”
